KIM
Kim is a Vietnamese girl recently orphaned, who has come to Saigon in search of work. Befriended by the Engineer she starts work in a club, where she meets and Falls in love with a young American Sergeant (Chris). A tragic and dramatic figure who expresses herself freely. Strong vocal and dramatic acting ability required.
Vocal: E below middle C, to EB2 above middle C
Age : Appearance between 17 and 20yrs
Dance: Capable of good movement
CHRIS
A vulnerable and emotional young American man completing his second tour when he meets Kim. Losing Kim when evacuated from Vietnam, and unable to find her again. He eventually marries an American girl (Ellen) only to discover that Kim is alive and has borne his son. Strong vocal and dramatic acting ability required.
Vocal: A below middle C, to C#3 above middle C
Age: Appearance between 20 to 30yrs

THE ENGINEER
A Vietnamese “Fagin” who is known to be able to source (engineer) anything (or anyone) required… for a fee. Owner of a nightclub / brothel, racketeer and black market entrepreneur. His greatest dream is to leave Saigon for America. Strong vocal and dramatic ability. With good comic timing required.
Vocal: A below middle C , to Ab 2 above middle C
Age: Appearance between 30 and 50yrs
Dance: Capable of good movement
JOHN
An American Marine and Chris’ best friend, who works in the American Embassy in Saigon. On returning to the USA he raises funds for the Vietnamese / US children left behind. Strong vocal and dramatic ability required.
Vocal: Gb below middle C, to C 2 above middle C
Age: Appearance between 25 to 40yrs
Dance: Capable of good movement
THUY
A young Vietnamese man from Kim’s village who was promised to her when they were children. As the Vietnamese Army enters Saigon he defects to the North and uses his influence to pursue Kim. A powerfully proud and tragic figure. Strong vocal and dramatic ability required.
Vocal: A below middle C, to Bb 2 above middle C

ELLEN
Chris’ American wife who struggles to reconcile the truth of her husband’s past and accompanies Chris on his journey to meet Kim and his son. Strong vocal and dramatic ability required.
Vocal: F# below middle C, to B2 above middle C
Age: Appearance between 20 and 30yrs
Dance: Capable of Good movement
TAM
Kim and Chris’ son, Eurasian child. Because of the young age of this role, the part will be shared amongst 2 children. Separate auditions will be held for this role.

ENSEMBLE - BAR GIRLS : 12 REQUIRED
International look required, these girls perform a number of roles and must be vocally strong, must be fit and comfortable to perform in a bikini or similarly small and revealing costume, and perform dances of a lewd and provocative nature.
